Congratulations to doctoral student Amalie Hipp on receiving two awards in support of her ongoing research in Panama!

This fall, Amalie was awarded a KU Doctoral Student Research Fund Award, which will support additional research during winter break at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) in Panama City, Panama. During her visit, she will examine archaeological crab remains that will contribute to her dissertation research on human-animal relationships and coastal resource use in pre-Columbian Panama.

Amalie also received support from the KU Graduate Student Travel Fund to present her research at the Congreso de Antropología e Historia de Panamá. There, she delivered her paper, “El uso del cangrejo de Gran Coclé: un análisis arqueofaunístico e iconográfico,” marking her first bilingual conference presentation.

These awards recognize both Amalie's scholarly achievements and the growing impact of her research. We congratulate her on these accomplishments and look forward to seeing the results of her continued work in Panama.
