Biography

Caroline uses genetic methods of reconstructing paleoenvironments to study ecosystem resilience against changing climate as well as develop a deeper understanding of human-environmental interactions in the past. Analysis of ancient DNA recovered from dated sedimentary deposits provides an overview of plant and animal community composition and targeted analysis of artifacts (e.g. faunal remains, paleofeces) provides detailed genomic insight to how organisms responded to environmental change. Interwoven with archaeological and geological analyses, these lines of evidence provide greater paleoenvironmental context for interpreting past human behavior.
