Biography —

My name is Macayla Sauser, and I am a PhD student at the University of Kansas. My doctoral research interests focus on the zooarchaeology of the Arctic, examining how animal-human relationships formed through processes such as animal domestication, adaptation, mobility, and environmental change during the archaic period. I am interested in studying diachronic human interactions among archaic societies in the Arctic, and in using molecular techniques on faunal material to observe the relationship between people and their environment during periods of environmental and social change. I aim to contribute to broader discussions on human-animal interactions, the resilience of small-scale societies, and the co-evolution of social and ecological systems.
